Ngāti Manuhiri exercise mana motuhake over taonga and rohe
Tuia ki te rangi, Tuia ki te papa
Tuia ki te moana, Tuia tātou
E rongo te pō, E rongo te ao
Haumi e, Hui e, Tāiki e!
The Ngāti Manuhiri Settlement Trust has placed a rāhui across Ōmaha Bay, Kawau Bay and the Whangaparāoa Peninsula. This rāhui aligns with the fisheries closure made in response to our application under section 186a of the Fisheries Act 1996.
The rāhui and closure will be in place for an initial period of two years, from 12 March 2026 to 11 March 2028. Further details on the areas and species covered by this rāhui and closure can be found using the external links below.
What does this mean?
A rāhui (a physical and spiritual mechanism) sets a temporary prohibition around the rāhui area and restricts access for that period. The purpose of the rāhui is to enable the environment to recuperate and regenerate without the presence and impact of humans.
