Following the earthquake off the East Coast of Russia on the morning of 30 July 2025 (NZT), a national advisory has been issued.
Coastal areas of New Zealand - including those in our rohe - can expect to experience strong and unusual currents and unpredictable surges at the shore.
Key actions
Stay away from beaches and out of the water until all warnings are lifted.
If you live aboard a vessel, please consider staying with friends and whānau tonight. If that is not an option, please make your way to a Civil Defence Centre.
