Kaipara Moana Remediation Programme

The Ngāti Manuhiri Settlement Trust joined Kahurangi Dame Rangimarie Naida Glavish of Ngāti Whatua with the Mayor of Auckland Phil Goff, Environment Minister David Parker, Conservation Minister Eugenie Sage, council and Kaipara Uri representatives, as well as community, conservation, hapū, and marae group and agricultural sector and philanthropic organisations to witness the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding to undertake the Kaipara Moana Remediation Programme, a $300 million, decade-long project address the siltation and degradation of the Kaipara Moana.

It’s a shared commitment to stop the erosion of nearby land, which is devastating New Zealand’s largest harbour, and to begin to restore and preserve the harbour as a major fish-spawning and recreational asset. This is the biggest-ever commitment of funds to address these issues and major step to improving the health of this taonga.
