Ara Tūhono Trust provides education grants to students who affiliate to the Hōkai Nuku members, being Ngāti Whatua, Ngāti Mauku/Ngāti Kauae of Te Uri o Hau, Ngāti Rango and Ngāti Manuhiri. We want to create opportunities for members to access learning that delivers on their personal goals and aspirations.
Hōkai Nuku values education as an essential tool in our on-going tribal development; there is a need for great minds to help tribal development.
Hōkai Nuku
Hōkai Nuku is the authorised voice of the four Iwi and Hapū mana whenua of the Ara Tūhono Pūhoi to Wellsford Road of National Significance Project area - Ngāti Manuhiri, Ngāti Whatua, Ngāti Mauku/Ngāti Kauae of Te Uri o Hau and Ngāti Rango. Hōkai Nuku was initially formed in 2010 to collaborate on the Ara Tūhono Project and has been contracted by Waka Kotahi to provide specialist advise for the Project.
Background
Hōkai Nuku, Waka Kotahi and the Northern Express Group (NX2) are working in partnership to deliver the first section of Ara Tūhono. The Pūhoi to Warkworth Project will extend the four-lane Northern Motorway (SH1) 18.5km from the Johnstone's Hill Tunnels to just north of Warkworth. It will be open to traffic in May 2022.
The Education Grants
Waka Kotahi and NX2 have allocated funds for the education grants as part of the project funding. The education grants provide financial support for eligible students to attain higher education qualifications at recognised Aotearoa tertiary institutions.
